Logicalis Partners with Zippin to Deliver Checkout-free Solutions in Brazil

SAO PAULO, and SAN MATEO, Calif. July 5, 2022-- Logicalis, a global information and communication technology solutions, and services company, today announces a partnership in Latin America with Zippin, a leading provider of checkout-free technology, for implementation and solutions development for checkout-free stores in Brazil.

Logicalis owns a significant share of the country's retail market, and can now offer its customers an innovative AI-powered technology that combines visual cognition with machine learning to understand real-world consumer actions and behaviors and digitize them. Brick and mortar retailers can now have the same level of insights that e-commerce retailers have accessed for many years.

“We have a vast opportunity in front of us here in Brazil. There are many retail stores, but almost none use checkout-free technology,” said Fábio Jardim, Senior Technology Manager at Logicalis Brasil's IoT unit. “In addition, new stores are emerging inside condominiums and business buildings where the technology used is still traditional barcode scanning. Zippin is on another level. It uses artificial intelligence to eliminate checkout altogether and create the best consumer experience, a strategy that is aligned with Logicalis’ offerings.”

To enter a Zippin-powered store, shoppers tap a credit card or scan a QR code inside an app and simply shop for the items they want. The artificial intelligence (AI) ​​software automatically identifies items picked up or put back, using overhead cameras and sensors, and creates a virtual shopping cart for each shopper. Customers can remove products from the shelf and leave without having to go through a checkout, as purchases are automatically charged to their credit card.

With Zippin's multimodal approach, it is possible to achieve the highest accuracy, showing the location of any merchandise inside the store, even if it is inside a customer's shopping cart. Additionally, retailers can understand the shopper's journey with data that shows exactly which products were purchased or which merchandise the client had interaction with, along with inventory levels and heat map reporting. They will also be able to allocate the store staff to other functions as they save shoppers 83,300 hours by eliminating cashier lines. All of this saves retailers on store operating costs, increasing the profit margin.

Customers, on the other hand, are offered a delightful, frictionless experience, which is especially important for quick service locations like stadiums and airports. In the 50 stores worldwide where it has been implemented, the Zippin solution has reduced the time consumers spend purchasing drinks from more than 20 minutes to just a few seconds by eliminating the checkout line.

The two companies have deployed checkout-free solutions in four stores of a major Brazilian retailer already to date, and plan to expand into several other companies in Brazil and South America.
